Born in the Fall of 1997, CASTRATI is, was, and shall be comprised of four wicked losahs from Boston, dude! Each having experience in their own bands previously. Actually, you're probably wondering why anyone would name their band after such a thing. (Well, just pretend you were wondering.) (For those of you who don't know what a Castrato is...look it up in a dictionary.) Well, I really don't have a good reason why we named the band that. It was either that or Catheter, so you can see why we chose the former rather than the latter. Our first show was in November of '97 with UNDERPRIVILEGEDNATION in Somerville, MA.
Following the New Year of '98, we managed to simultaneously get rather inebriated and play our first show in a foreign country. (Canada's considered foreign, right?) From then on we have continued to play any shows that we could possibly find (with a silly trip to Baltimore to play a show that we weren't even booked for.......fun!) and have recorded as often as deemed fit. Our latest recording was done at Fort Apache Studios in Cambridge, MA and it should be released sometime soon with our other previous recordings. Our last show was held at Jeremiah's (singer/guitarist) school, Goddard College, In Vermont.
Now that there is distance between the band, shows have become difficult, but we plan to move on playing and recording when possible as well as focus on releasing our material. Money would help of course. Soon enough we'll have samples of music up and running on this site and, if interested in obtaining the full versions of the songs, you can send a tape to us and we'll copy what we have for you, if you cover shipping. We're poor right now. That's obvious by the fact that our CD isn't out yet. Right now only two of us are left in Boston and the band has been playing infrequently while working on releasing our CD, which, may I remind you, is being held back because of our lack of money. We've even tried selling our bodies, but that was just down right humiliating...One member is in between Vermont and Washngton D.C., while the other is enjoying time outside of the United States in Norway.
