5 Bucks! Graduates of the Rock N' Roll High School
In the span of a single school year, 5 Bucks! has managed to take their
mix of pop, punk, metal and ska towards the head of the class. The 4 piece
band (trombone, guitar/vocals, bass and drums) sold out of the first pressing
of their self-released debut CD "Summer of '84" at area shows and through New
England's largest independent music chain, Newbury Comics. The CD gained
radio airplay throughout Boston on alternative rock stations WBCN (104.1fm),
WFNX (101.7fm) and many college radio stations, making appearences throughout
CMJ magazine.
After touring extensively throughout the northeast, 5 BUCKS! took a
break over the summer of '99 to record the follow up CD, "this is my
girlfriend" for High Score Records. Produced Boston's Jon Lammi the new CD
showcases how 5 BUCKS! has developed their own style for the usually
redundant punk/ska genre. In it's first two weeks of release "this is my
girlfriend" managed to gain a number 2 spot on the Newbury Comics top ten
independent releases the month of September.
5 Bucks! has entertained thousands thoughout 1999 and don't plan on
stopping anytime soon. They've made fans by playing New England area Colleges
and Univerisities, Boston night clubs (Mama Kins, TT the Bears, Lansdown St.
Music Hall, Bills Bar) and dozens of all ages do-it-yourself style punk rock
shows in the suburbs of MA and NH in addition to the 18 and 21 plus venues.
Being able to play for the varied crowds that these shows draw has allowed
for the band to reach an incredibly wide range of people for its ever growing
fan base. 5 Bucks! has shared the stage with such acts as Moon Ska records'
the Bluebeats, Asian Man records' Link 80, Epitaph/Hellcat records' the
Slackers as well as Boston area favorites Big D and the Kids Table, Kicked in
the Head and dozens more. Over the summer of 1999 5 BUCKS! opened all New
England dates for Kung Fu/Fat Wreck Chords' the ATARIS North American tour.
In the fall of the same year, 5 Bucks! played at the New Hampshire
presidential debate which gave the band national and international media
coverage including an interview by Comedy Central's "the Daily Show".
With so much accomplished in so little time and NO SIGN of these 4 young
men slowing down, 5 BUCKS! is ready to take on the world. With their hard
work and undying determination, there is no telling how far they will go.
